Weekend Meltdown #1 - Serena Williams Seething In Game, Set & Match!!!

September 14th, 2009 · 4 Comments

Goliath vs. David
Goliath vs. David, but we all know who won that battle!

Serena Williams’ verbal fit on the tennis court at the US Open this weekend brought a rather deflated end to the women’s semifinals between Serena and Kim Clijsters who, by the way, went on to win the Women’s US Open title.

Serena saw stars when a line judge made a poor call in the second set with Clijsters up one set (6-4) and leading in the second set (6-5) at 30-15.  The call gave Clijsters a 40-15 lead.  Serena rushed toward the line judge like a raging bull, threatening to shove the tennis ball down her f—ing throat and according to the judge, threatening to kill her!   Serena denied saying she would kill her, however, you can hear someone from the stands yelling, “Yeah, you did!” at 2:00-2:01 on the videotape!

For her tirade, Serena not only lost her US Open title and was fined $10,500 (peanuts to her), she also lost the chance of being the only woman besides Billie Jean King to win 12 major titles.

Maya Muses:  Oh well, there’s always next year!  It brought back memories of all the great meltdowns with John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, and Ilie Nastase!  Hmm,…all male testosterone meltdowns until now!

I am a teacher and I believe that
Serena Williams should be barred from playing tennis ever again and she should invest in ANGER MANAGEMENT . She thinKs she is above everyone else and that rules and sportsmanship do not apply to her. She has gotten to big for her britches as my grandma would say. What aN insult she is to our youth and people that enjoy true sportsmanship. As long as the association tolerates this behavior then it will beome the norm. She has enough money and can continue to hoch her wears.I ‘m tired of the lame apologies that only come after their purse is affected. I’m sorry doesn’t mean anything until it hits their pockets. I DO NOT WANT HER representing USA …She is one angry person and does not belong as a role model or a representative of our country. There are plenty more where she came from that would love to play with diginity. Please do the right thing and set standards that Americans can be proud of reclaiming the values and morals that men and women die for everyday. She needs to be gone for a long time and get her ego into a REALITY Check.

I was watching the match when it happened, and it’s not the way you want to see a game end! Besides, I felt sorry for the line judge who looked somewhat frightened.

Sandy, I think there should have been stronger measures taken against her, such as a suspension for a period of time. Instead she was allowed to play her doubles match with her sister Venus, but….that said, never to be able to play tennis again is rather harsh as well. As my ex Jean-Pierre use to say, “All extremes are bad.”

Cid, I agree! And when you pay good money to see a good match, you feel as though you’ve been robbed when it ends like that!
