Patrick and I love watching The Amazing Race and every week Patrick ends up saying the same thing. “Why don’t we apply for the Amazing Race? We would be great at it!”
It’s true, between the two of us I think we would fare very well; we’ve been to over 80 countries, lived in 10 and we speak 3 languages fluently and can get by in 2 others! So we’re seasoned travelers to say the least!
Still, I tell Patrick, that’s not a guarantee. A lot of other contestants who were well traveled and spoke several languages did not end up winning the million dollars and some didn’t do well at all!
To be honest, I think we would do rather poorly. Patrick is laid back, stays calm, and remains optimistic even when things are looking doomed. Me, on the other hand, with my firey Latin temper, I know I would be screaming and yelling like a wild banshee, cursing like a drunken sailor, and bulldozing anyone and everyone to get to the finish line first! What can I say, I would be the contestant that everyone would love to hate!
So every week I tell Patrick that he should ask his son, Julien, to do the race with him instead.
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously love to travel, but I prefer doing it my way, which doesn’t include zipping from one country to the next in a whirlwind that by the end of the show, the contestants can’t really remember seeing anything.
Maya Muses: The one million dollar prize at the finish line, however, looks very tempting!

I know I wouldn’t! I think Patrick would be a good one, however. Happy Saint Patrick’s day to you too, Meredith!
