It’s All Maya!

Update:  The new Super Bowl rings have finally arrived!  Scroll down for a closer look!  Warning:  you may need to put on sunglasses with all the bling; afterall, there’s 63 diamonds and other precious gems!!!  (Okay!  I’ll stop drooling!)

Talk about an exciting game…..this was it!!!  The Steelers took a comfortable lead (17-7) in the first half thanks to an amazing touchdown by AP Defensive Player of the Year, James Harrison!  With only 18 seconds to go on the clock, Cardinal Quarterback Kurt Warner was in control of the ball at the Steelers’ 2-yard line!  Warner threw the ball intended for team mate Anquan Boldin, but was intercepted by Harrison.  With seconds to go, linebacker Harrison ran 100 yards weaving in and out, and dancing over and under both Cardinal and Steelers alike to make it to the end zone for a touchdown just in the nick of time and the longest play in Super Bowl history! 

If I hadn’t seen the play with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it!  It was incredible!  We were all waving our Terrible Towels!  Thank Goodness for the Half-Time show to get our heart rates back down to normal and time to make more frozen Margaritas!  We definitely needed the repose and the drinks because the second half proved to be even more exciting than the first, and we were becoming hoarse from all the screaming!

In the second half, Pittsburgh continued to lead 20-7 until the fourth quarter when the Arizona Cardinals ended up making some incredible plays to inch their way past the Steelers!  With only 2:37 left to play, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald made a 64-yard touchdown putting Arizona ahead of Pittsburgh 23-20!  2 minutes 37 seconds in American Football, however, is still plenty of time to get the job done! 

“Big Ben” Roethlisberger, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers drove the team 78 yards with minutes to go in an all out effort to get the ball in the end zone and that’s exactly what he did!  With Santonio Holmes (MVP) waiting in the far corner of the end zone, Roethlisberger threw the perfect pass right into the hands of Holmes where he managed to keep his toes on the ground and the ball in his hand for a nano second to make the touchdown before being tackled out of bounds!

The ball back in the Cardinals’ control, there was still enough time on the clock where anything could happen, that is until Warner fumbled the ball in the final seconds of the game and Arizona’s dream of winning their first Super Bowl was dashed, giving the Pittsburgh Steelers their sixth Super Bowl win, 27-23!!!  Bling bling, all those rings!!!

Maya Muses:  As one of my favorite players for the Pittsburgh Steelers (Troy Polamalu) said, the game of football is “poetry in motion” and tonight’s game was truly that!  If you put music to some of tonight’s plays in slow motion, it’s as graceful as watching a ballet!  No kidding!!!

Okay, well, maybe some of the guys on the team wouldn’t like me talking about ballerinas and football players all in the same sentence, but I see a comparison!  What?  Okay….”most of the guys wouldn’t”….!
