Barack Obama was concerned about where he should be buried and who should preside over his funeral services when the time should come. Afterall, his fallout with his mentor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright left a lot of questions to be answered in his mind.
While Sen. Obama visited Israel this summer, he had a chance to talk to Israeli President Shimon Peres. The two men shared a few moments alone away from all the cameras and press.
“You know, after visiting the Wailing Wall and thinking about how short a lifetime is, I’ve been thinking about where I would like to be buried when my time comes.” Obama confides to Pres. Peres. “I can’t see myself being buried in Arlington National Cemetery if I don’t become President. As you may very well know, I’ve never served in the Armed Forces and it just doesn’t seem like the right place to be. Still, I would like to be buried somewhere prestigious which is deign to my position, if you understand what I mean.”
Pres. Peres sympathizes with Sen. Obama and says, “Hmm, that is a dilemma. Perhaps if I spoke to the Cardinal of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, you could possibly be buried there, what do you think?”
Obama’s eyes widen as he exclaims, “Really?! Do you think it’s possible?! Imagine being buried in the same place where Christ was buried! I love the idea, it couldn’t get any better than that!”
Pres. Peres assures Obama that he’ll get back to him and Obama leaves Israel. A few weeks later Obama receives a call from the Israeli president. “Sen. Obama I have good news for you. It wasn’t easy, it had to be approved not only by the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, but also by the Knesset, but you now have the approval to be buried there.” Without skipping a beat, the president adds, “It will cost you 66 million dollars, however.”
Obama stunned, replies to the Israeli president. “W-what!?! …… B-but, ……. 66 million dollars!!!….For three days!!!”
Maya Muses: I couldn’t help myself! This old joke from the 1980’s was told time and again with former French President François Mitterand who thought he was “God”, (as many liked to say)! It hasn’t fit any politician up until now, but with all the innuendos about Obama thinking he’s the “Second Coming”, well it was easy to tweak the joke to fit him! LOL!!!
