I was told by someone somewhere that you should never buy a deck of Tarot cards for yourself. According to some ancient tradition, when the time is right for you to own your cards, someone will offer them to you.
Angel Tarot Cards
I received my first deck from a good friend back in the early 1980’s. I decided to learn how to read the cards so I could do it for myself. Afterall, why go to a psychic, fortune-teller, medium when you can do it yourself?! Right?! Well, for some reason I just couldn’t see anything for myself! When I would look at the cards,…. well, they just looked like a bunch of pretty cards.

Friends, however, say that I am spot on when I do a reading for them, but I’m not a serious card reader. I have become a serious collector though and I like to look at them.

I´ve got 3 decks.. and I´ve seen all kinds in Madrid, I like the ones with cats…

I have a few too….yours are nice….
I have Rider’s of course and Dali’s too….
“Osho’s” Zen cards, I have been looking at for some time now…don’t have them yet!
Tina have some” Goddess” cards I like very much…
One deck I have that I really like is the Mayan oracle!They are very special…
I have other decks too…
But the one I use the most when I do readings or pick cards are Crowley’s Deck….
Yes,I know,some says it is “black”….
Never had that feeling when using them though….
I don’t believe they are.so for me they are not!
They say the same to me when I pick cards or do a reading..on the spot!
But I can pick cards for myself too,and it is sometimes too accurate…..
I see the Tarot-cards as tools, I always use them as such…They are not magical on their own,you have to learn how to interpret them…
And this is an art in its self….

Whomever told you that Tarot cards should be gifted not bought is going off an incorrect and not ancient thought. This stems from a teaching in witchcraft that a witch should never haggle for his/her tools. NOT that they shouldn’t buy them but that they shouldn’t dicker over the price. The thought is that when you find the tool, the price is right.
Not sure how that translated into being given things, but it’s a pretty slick trick. LOL Loved this blog. You have some lovely decks in your collection. I really love your last statement in this blog about Tarot being a tool. Spot on!

Thanks Stephanie for the correction! All this time I thought someone had to give me the cards! LOL!!! Actually, when I see a deck of cards I like, I do purchase them for myself, but a lot of friends have given me quite a few as well.
I like your blog, very interesting! I will have to try the 5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake….but I think it will have to be a pretty big mug!

Yes,it is the Thoth deck….It was the first deck I had a reading done for me..And they “talked” to me,they still do….
My Mayan oracle?Yeah,I will show it to you someday….

This is my experience with every “tool”….
They come in different ways and always when I really need them…
Could be; books,tarot cards,a TV program,
someone you meet,just a overhearing,
music,lyrics,a bird,a butterfly,almost anything…
Tools…but it is always I, myself who has to do the interpretation….To be open..

I mention to David that I have tarot decks and I do readings sometimes.. I asked him for an honest opinion. while he respects people who use them, they are not his thing.
Funny he said the same thing about cats..

I think there are cat people and dog people, and usually you can’t get them to like the other, sort of like cats and dogs! Lol.

We had a cat and a dog,they loved each other!
I love both cats and dogs,but if I have to choose I prefer cats!
A creative couple I know of and love, have a cat and a dog….
Cats and dogs…different energies…Yin and Yang…Male and Female….
What I read into it is; balance between the two energies creates magic….

I think we could work something out… maybe it’s because David likes dogs… but he’s had all kinds of pets, birds, goldfish even a tortoise…
Getting back to cards…… I did a reading 2 and a half months ago and in a nut shell it told me that I was going to go through something traumatic in my life, that I didn’t expect and at the time it will feel like the worst thing in the world… but It had to happen for a reason, then it talked about healing and second chances…. it was spot on….

when I lived with my parents we had a cat named Toffee which My dad didn’t like at first but then again he didn’t have a say in the matter…. but after a few years my dad and Toffee became good friends. after 13 years Toffee passed away….
Timi will do the same with David… eventually…
