If you’re looking for a web hosting company, then read on!
I made the mistake of reading bogus reviews put out by the two owners/employees of Mochahost when I first started writing my blog! I wasn’t interested in a free wordpress or blogger account; I wanted my own domain name and hosting company. When you’re new to the blogosphere, you just have to take a chance that the company you choose is a good one. Well, mine wasn’t!
MochaHost as a company is run like a two guy operation out of their garage, or so it seems! And no! Don’t even try to think of these two guys like a future Steve Wozniak/Steve Jobs team!! No comparison!!! This is more like a Laurel and Hardy team which has no business calling itself a web hosting company! If you have a problem, you can never get anyone on the telephone no matter what time of day or night you call. You have to leave your name and the person will get back to you. The reason why I’m convinced there’s only two guys working there is you always get the same two people on the phone during call back time and they never resolve the problem you’re calling about!
If you chat with their online help, it’s the same person (of course they give a different name just like on the phone, but I can recognize their “manner of speaking” when they type, just like I recognize their voices on the phone! When you chat with them live, they don’t resolve your problem either, they just tell you to send a ticket to support telling them about your problem and their “non-existent support team” will take care of it!
Two years ago I left their services and decided to go with BlueHost where I have never had any problems whatsoever, but I did call them late one evening to ask a question about transferring my domain names. There was actually someone there to talk to me; not like the answering machine you’ll get everytime with MochaHost!
So, you ask, why am I going on about how bad Mochahost is now after leaving their company two years ago? Well when a company tries to rip me off, I don’t usually take it sitting down! I decided to switch my three domain names that Mochahost had originally registered, and wanted them transferred to my hosting company, BlueHost. I contacted Mochahost over a month before my names would expire to get them transferred. What did they do? They renewed my names before the transfer! In other words, they charged me for the 3 domain names and still kept themselves as the registrar.
I didn’t say anything because I knew if I did, they would block the transfer and I wanted nothing more to do with this company so I waited until the transfers were complete. I then contacted MochaHost and told them the reason for transferring my 3 domains was so BlueHost could register them and that they had no right to renew my names when the expiration was more than a month away. They told me if I didn’t pay them, they wouldn’t make the transfer! (Exactly as I thought!!!)
So now I’m paying double for each of my domain names! I told BlueHost to renew my names, and before the transfer, MochaHost took it upon themselves to renew my names.
I called up my credit card company and told them to take the charge off from MochaHost which they did, but MochaHost lied and told them I owed them the money and sent an invoice from 2006!!! They knew that they couldn’t dispute the actually charges about transferring the domain names, because there is no charge for such a transfer! Today I received a letter in the mail from Visa telling me that they were putting the charges back on and they sent me a copy of the invoice!!!!
Maya Muses: Believe me, this isn’t over yet! It’s the principle of the thing; the money isn’t worth fighting about! I would gladly pay more than that just to get rid of them! I’m not letting this go, however, because they are wrong!
Bottom line: If you’re looking for a webhosting company to start your business or just to write a blog - stay away from MochaHost! Unless you want poor service and you want to get ripped off when you decide to leave…..then they’re #1 !!!! Don’t take my word for it, click here to read what others are saying! I have actually made a mistake by chosing to host at mochahost, the support is pathetic. Go through the chat log with the support guy and see how rude and unhelpfull they are:

Sorry Suman, I had to edit part of your comment, but your message of frustration and not being helped is evident. The best thing I did was go to another webhosting company and I’m very pleased by their services and tech support! Good luck!

xSuperman, it’s only the start of your troubles, but they have a policy that says “Money Back 30 Days Guarantee” so you can cancel your service within the first 30 days! It’s an option I would seriously consider!

I am really frustrated because of their customer service. Anywhere if you find a positive feedback about mocha i bet it would be from the mocha people.
“I’m sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be able to assist you with this issue” this is the only response they have.
Never ever fall in to the trap.
I request you to kindly remove all link for mocha website from your webpages.
I am going to promote this as no one else should be bothered any more because of these F’s

Vasir, that’s all I heard from them…..they could never resolve the problem immediately, you always had to go through their support system. I’m so glad I changed my hosting company!

I have been through all of the problems and am fed up. My site was taken down today without warning or explanation , only the following message:
Our system has detected that the file list below might be in violation of our terms and conditions as outlined at http://www.mochahost.com/tc.php
No file list was included. I am certain nothing on my site was copyrighted. They have been in touch saying the only way to recover my files is to first DELETE to the whole public_html folder. Kind of defeats the purpose! Terrible terrible! Can’t explain how many times I’ve gone through Suman’s SAME experience with their “support team”!

Chris, I feel for you! I also went through what Suman did and I was afraid that one day what happened to you would happen to me! I’m glad I left and went to Blue Host! Best move I’ve ever made!

- bad support (bad language, they hang up if don’t know the answers to your questions)
- tried online chat instead of phone but they have:
- blocked my ip from accessing mochasupport.com, their main support site
- blocked my ip from accessing mochahost.com
no support means no more tickets, no more developing software for the site, no more control over own account with mochahost, including billing (couldn’t pay bills anymore)
I decided to move to different provider, close my account with mochahost (after just 2 weeks) but they quickly locked my domain from being transfered away from them. I tried to move out after my ip was denied (see above) and after being repeatedly insulted by their customer support.
Oh, btw, to close an account with them you need to place 3 different tickets with account management, with tech support and with billing, 3 different tickets for the same purpose. If they haven’t blocked you from using their ticketing system.
- I have also filed a claim with PayPal to recover loses (and it worked)
(you can do it too if unsatisfied with their service)
- filed a complaint with ICANN to recover my own domain that they are now abusively holding. THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS OFFENSE AND CAN BE LEGALLY DISPUTED.
Since the above offense is a serious one I had my lawyer contact their lawyer and now will see what they’re up to.
You been in similar situation with mochahost? need advice?
lemme know. been through all the process already, happy to help other unsatisfied customers.

Thanks for all the information, Sidney!!! I’m sure it will be very helpful for a lot of people!
I also had trouble getting my domain name moved and they went and charged my c.c. without my approval. Thank goodness my c.c. company changed my # and started a process against them for illegally charging my card.
As you know, they cannot hold your domain name, but you can only move your domain name 60 days after the initial registration. So if you registered your name with Mochahost and then decided to leave after a few weeks, you need to wait until the 60 day period is up.
(That’s ICANN policy.)

I SWEAR MOCHAHOST IS REALLY THE WORST THING ON THE PLANET.
All my websites are not working 7 hours ago!! And nobody replies to any tickets! The guy(s) on the chat do not understand anything, I believe these guys are addicted to heroin or something.
14 Lynn // Aug 18, 2010 at 4:20 pm
It is a ….., I know where you’re coming from.
The only thing that the guys (actually I think there are only two guys working the chat, but they use a bunch of different names to make you think that there’s a whole company of people working there) anyway, as I was saying, the only thing that the guys working the chat know how to do is to tell you to e-mail a ticket to their “support” department because they can’t help you with your problem.
The problem is, the two guys in the support department are the same two guys working the live chat. Hmm, can you see a problem here???
