MochaHost – Worst Web Hosting Company Ever!

May 6th, 2009 · 49 Comments

If you’re looking for a web hosting company, then read on!  Worst web hosting company ever!I made the mistake of reading bogus reviews put out by the two owners/employees of Mochahost when I first started writing my blog!  I wasn’t interested in a free wordpress or blogger account; I wanted my own domain name and hosting company.  When you’re new to the blogosphere, you just have to take a chance that the company you choose is a good one.  Well, mine wasn’t!

MochaHost as a company is run like a two guy operation out of their garage, or so it seems!   And no! Don’t even try to think of these two guys like a future Steve Wozniak/Steve Jobs team!!  No comparison!!!  This is more like a Laurel and Hardy team which has no business calling itself a web hosting company!  If you have a problem, you can never get anyone on the telephone no matter what time of day or night you call.  You have to leave your name and the person will get back to you.  The reason why I’m convinced there’s only two guys working there is you always get the same two people on the phone during call back time and they never resolve the problem you’re calling about!

MochaHost logoIf you chat with their online help, it’s the same person (of course they give a different name just like on the phone, but I can recognize their “manner of speaking” when they type, just like I recognize their voices on the phone!  When you chat with them live, they don’t resolve your problem either, they just tell you to send a ticket to support telling them about your problem and their “non-existent support team” will take care of it!

BlueHost - good service, no surprises! Two years ago I left their services and decided to go with BlueHost where I have never had any problems whatsoever, but I did call them late one evening to ask a question about transferring my domain names.  There was actually someone there to talk to me; not like the answering machine you’ll get everytime with MochaHost!

So, you ask, why am I going on about how bad Mochahost is now after leaving their company two years ago?  Well when a company tries to rip me off, I don’t usually take it sitting down!  I decided to switch my three domain names that Mochahost had originally registered, and wanted them transferred to my hosting company, BlueHost.  I contacted Mochahost over a month before my names would expire to get them transferred.  What did they do?  They renewed my names before the transfer!  In other words, they charged me for the 3 domain names and still kept themselves as the registrar.

BlueHost delivers!I didn’t say anything because I knew if I did, they would block the transfer and I wanted nothing more to do with this company so I waited until the transfers were complete.  I then contacted MochaHost and told them the reason for transferring my 3 domains was so BlueHost could register them and that they had no right to renew my names when the expiration was more than a month away.  They told me if I didn’t pay them, they wouldn’t make the transfer!  (Exactly as I thought!!!)

So now I’m paying double for each of my domain names!  I told BlueHost to renew my names, and before the transfer, MochaHost took it upon themselves to renew my names.  It’s not over yet!I called up my credit card company and told them to take the charge off from MochaHost which they did, but MochaHost lied and told them I owed them the money and sent an invoice from 2006!!!  They knew that they couldn’t dispute the actually charges about transferring the domain names, because there is no charge for such a transfer! Today I received a letter in the mail from Visa telling me that they were putting the charges back on and they sent me a copy of the invoice!!!!

Maya Muses:  Believe me, this isn’t over yet!  It’s the principle of the thing; the money isn’t worth fighting about!  I would gladly pay more than that just to get rid of them!  I’m not letting this go, however, because they are wrong!

Bottom line:  If you’re looking for a webhosting company to start your business or just to write a blog – stay away from MochaHost!  Unless you want poor service and you want to get ripped off when you decide to leave…..then they’re #1 !!!!  Don’t take my word for it, click here to read what others are saying!  (Comments are in the box.)

I have actually made a mistake by chosing to host at mochahost, the support is pathetic. Go through the chat log with the support guy and see how rude and unhelpfull they are:

Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond.
Chat InformationYou are now chatting with ‘Sandy’
Sandy: Welcome to MochaHost’s Live Help ! How may I help you ?
    Suman Ghosh: Hi Sandy
Suman Ghosh: do you have technical support
    Sandy: Yes
Suman Ghosh: is there any live chat help for technical problems or any number to call
Sandy: We do not offer international phone support

Sandy: Yes, it operates via callback, no Skype numbers

Suman Ghosh: is there any alternative arrangement for international customers, if its very urgent?
    Sandy: No
Suman Ghosh: I have a reseller account with Mochahost and not getting tech support like you promised with 4 hours 24/7
Sandy: What is the problem exactly?
Suman Ghosh: I have posted throughout the day but no one responds… my client is going to sue me
Suman Ghosh: even I wish to call at my cost, as you can understand my anguish and tension, I am not able to contact anyone
Suman Ghosh: I am sure the reason they have given is not correct and they dont even come up with error log so that atleast I can have something to defend myself, I am helpless at the moment
Sandy: I’m sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be able to assist you with this issue
Sandy: You’ll have to wait for an answer in the ticket
Suman Ghosh: that is the problem, neither anyone is escalating the ticket nor anyone responding
Sandy: Have you dropped the database as advised?
Suman Ghosh: are you crazy? its a live database, you just cant say it has InnoDB problem and shrug off the responsibility
Suman Ghosh: I have never faced such a problem with any hosting agency earlier.. I am at a total loss
Sandy: I’m sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be able to assist you with this issue
Sandy: You’ll have to wait for an answer in the ticket
Suman Ghosh: my experience says its a ownership problem, I suggested but no one responds
Suman Ghosh: please please do something
Sandy: There’s nothing I can do, sir
Sandy: You’ll just have to wait
Suman Ghosh: isn’t there anyway you can expedite it?
Sandy: No, sir, I don’t have such privileges
Suman Ghosh: how do I know if anyone is even taking care of it at the moment? or is it closed at your end
    Sandy: It is not closed
Sandy: You should receive an answer in the ticket later today, sir
Suman Ghosh: thats what I asked, how long do I have to wait to get a response? or atleast the error log
Sandy: It was pleasure serving you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. Have a good day/night !

Sorry Suman, I had to edit part of your comment, but your message of frustration and not being helped is evident. The best thing I did was go to another webhosting company and I’m very pleased by their services and tech support! Good luck!

  • 3 xSuperman // Nov 9, 2009 at 12:41 pm

very bad mochahost..i purchase vps server from them a couple days ago. i received automatically email respond said the server will be setup between 24-48 hours,..

its been 48hours left but my virtual server still not yet installed.

    they non-experience customer service said,

    ” you need to wait…..blablabla..”

what a bad customer service.. very unhelpfully..they also seems not professional with server setup..

to other visitor who need to use mochahost, i suggest u try other host 1st..

  • 4 Lynn // Nov 9, 2009 at 4:29 pm

xSuperman, it’s only the start of your troubles, but they have a policy that says “Money Back 30 Days Guarantee” so you can cancel your service within the first 30 days! It’s an option I would seriously consider!

  • 5 vasir // Nov 21, 2009 at 11:11 pm

I am really frustrated because of their customer service. Anywhere if you find a positive feedback about mocha i bet it would be from the mocha people.
“I’m sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be able to assist you with this issue” this is the only response they have.

Never ever fall in to the trap.
I request you to kindly remove all link for mocha website from your webpages.
I am going to promote this as no one else should be bothered any more because of these F’s

  • 6 Lynn // Nov 26, 2009 at 5:32 am

Vasir, that’s all I heard from them…..they could never resolve the problem immediately, you always had to go through their support system. I’m so glad I changed my hosting company!

  • 7 chris // Feb 5, 2010 at 1:32 pm

I have been through all of the problems and am fed up. My site was taken down today without warning or explanation , only the following message:

Our system has detected that the file list below might be in violation of our terms and conditions as outlined at

No file list was included. I am certain nothing on my site was copyrighted. They have been in touch saying the only way to recover my files is to first DELETE to the whole public_html folder. Kind of defeats the purpose! Terrible terrible! Can’t explain how many times I’ve gone through Suman’s SAME experience with their “support team”!

  • 8 Lynn // Feb 7, 2010 at 5:18 am

Chris, I feel for you! I also went through what Suman did and I was afraid that one day what happened to you would happen to me! I’m glad I left and went to Blue Host! Best move I’ve ever made!

  • 9 sidney // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:14 am

    – bad support (bad language, they hang up if don’t know the answers to your questions)
    – tried online chat instead of phone but they have:
    – blocked my ip from accessing, their main support site
    – blocked my ip from accessing

no support means no more tickets, no more developing software for the site, no more control over own account with mochahost, including billing (couldn’t pay bills anymore)

I decided to move to different provider, close my account with mochahost (after just 2 weeks) but they quickly locked my domain from being transfered away from them. I tried to move out after my ip was denied (see above) and after being repeatedly insulted by their customer support.

Oh, btw, to close an account with them you need to place 3 different tickets with account management, with tech support and with billing, 3 different tickets for the same purpose. If they haven’t blocked you from using their ticketing system.

    – I have also filed a claim with PayPal to recover loses (and it worked)
(you can do it too if unsatisfied with their service)

    – filed a complaint with ICANN to recover my own domain that they are now abusively holding. THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS OFFENSE AND CAN BE LEGALLY DISPUTED.

Since the above offense is a serious one I had my lawyer contact their lawyer and now will see what they’re up to.

You been in similar situation with mochahost? need advice?
lemme know. been through all the process already, happy to help other unsatisfied customers.

  • 10 Lynn // Feb 8, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Thanks for all the information, Sidney!!! I’m sure it will be very helpful for a lot of people!

I also had trouble getting my domain name moved and they went and charged my c.c. without my approval. Thank goodness my c.c. company changed my # and started a process against them for illegally charging my card.

As you know, they cannot hold your domain name, but you can only move your domain name 60 days after the initial registration. So if you registered your name with Mochahost and then decided to leave after a few weeks, you need to wait until the 60 day period is up.

    (That’s ICANN policy.)

  • 11 f... mochahost // Jun 1, 2010 at 8:02 am

even i am facing problem.. this is the most fucking and worst company i have ever seen… don’t ever go with them.. they just take money and don’t provide you the proper service…

  • 12 Lynn // Jun 1, 2010 at 11:36 am

    F….. I couldn’t have said it better!

  • 13 It is a piece of sh.. // Aug 18, 2010 at 12:34 am

All my websites are not working 7 hours ago!! And nobody replies to any tickets! The guy(s) on the chat do not understand anything, I believe these guys are addicted to heroin or something.

  • 14 Lynn // Aug 18, 2010 at 4:20 pm

It is a ….., I know where you’re coming from.

The only thing that the guys (actually I think there are only two guys working the chat, but they use a bunch of different names to make you think that there’s a whole company of people working there) anyway, as I was saying, the only thing that the guys working the chat know how to do is to tell you to e-mail a ticket to their “support” department because they can’t help you with your problem.

The problem is, the two guys in the support department are the same two guys working the live chat. Hmm, can you see a problem here???

  • 15 David Kelly // Sep 21, 2010 at 2:21 pm

I fully agree with this blog. Mochahost is absolutely shocking. I have had nothing but problems with them over the last six months. My VPS was so slow they moved it to another server, which is now so slow they are offering to move me again. Every move means changing DNS, other configurations etc. Whenever my VPS died (due to the host crashing) they would boot up my old VPS, even though I specifically asked every time that they make sure they were booting the right one.

Their support is a joke. The online chat goes no further than having some clueless moron tell you to submit tickets. When my tickets disappeared they told me to submit a ticket explaining that I couldn’t see my tickets!

Just stay away from them, they don’t care about their customers and their tech and customer support are horrific.

  • 16 Lynn // Sep 23, 2010 at 2:55 pm

David, you said it all!!! A nightmare that I’m glad that I no longer have!!!

  • 17 Cheap Master Reseller // Nov 17, 2010 at 9:03 am

I also had a reseller with and they fucked me. They have most rude support in the world and also having teasing behaviour.
They always tease their customers and enforce them to purchase higher packages.
Even last day they did not respond me and I have to move away from them.
NEVER NEVER CHOOSE MOCHAHOST.COM. It’s my advice and you will be fucked if you choose them.

  • 18 Lynn // Nov 19, 2010 at 6:22 am

The only thing I disagree with Cheap, you say they have “rude support”, I say they have “no support” whatsoever!!! I’m sure you’ll find better service somewhere else, because it couldn’t get any worse than what you had!

  • 19 George // Dec 3, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Mochahost is definitely the WORST of the WORST. I recently lost 700 USD with them, not to mention about business loss. I am planning to build a site with my correspondence withe their “support”. They forced me to upgrade to VPS, which was mis configured and did not function since the beginning. Their excuses are pathetic. Stay away from them!

  • 20 Lynn // Dec 4, 2010 at 11:39 am

George, I have yet to hear anyone say anything good about Mochahost!!! I hope your c.c. company can get your charges reversed. Mine eventually were because Mochahost took the money from my credit card without my permission!

  • 21 Javier M. // Jan 17, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Hello: We were almost 2 months with a Dedicated Server in Mocha Host. During that period we verified that the support of 24 hrs. that they announce does not work. The person of chat is prepared to give automated answers and to send ridiculous links to the help pages. Then, the chat person recommend to send an e-mail to the Support Team. The Support Team responds only 1 asks each hour, where the answer can be: ” Could you explain your problem better ? ”

Finally we lost all the information of our site and the Support Team was decided not to respond more to our shouts of help. Then we decided to cancel the account, knowing that we will had to pay an additional month due to contract reasons .The worst thing was that after months we verified that continues charging us the service in spite of to be cancelled.

We have sent them all the documentation that they indicates that we came in due course to the cancellation of the service and following all the rules that they themselves asked to us to follow. But they insist on sending e-mails almost automated acquiring every month. This seems to me a very serious swindle. Today I will have to speak with the executive of my bank that they stop any charge of to my credit card.

Another point to consider, is that Mocha Host offers very cheap prices, but does not emphasize in its announcements that the clients must pay an additional cost to enter as user. In the first month, we had to pay 84 dollars, but they generated 2 invoices, one by 84 dollars of the first month service, and a SECOND INVOICE of 84 dollars more, due to an additional collection that they call “Signup” cost.

I understand that this situation is happening to many well-meaning people and is urgent to disclosed it so that it does not happen to more people, since it is a true nightmare and an attack of Mocha Host to the users without any provocation.

  • 22 Lynn // Jan 18, 2011 at 6:17 am

Javier, that’s exactly what you need to do! Contact your bank or credit card company and tell them you oppose the charges that Mocha Host has put on them. That’s what I did and the charges were eventually dropped. It wasn’t easy, but you have to let them know that M.H. was continuing to charge you even after you had cancelled with them!

I’m surprised that Mocha Host still manages to have clients. What they say they’ll do for you if you sign up with them sounds good, but once you do – it’s a nightmare!

I hope you get your money back and good luck to you!

  • 23 Bernd Zhang // Jan 21, 2011 at 1:08 pm

I have recently very bad experience with mochahost. I paid one year for my hosting, now it is the third month, but they suddenly suspended my account and request me to upgrade to VPS service which is much more expensive than my current plan.

Any one can recommend a reliable jsp webhosting provider? Thanks in advance!

  • 24 Lynn // Jan 21, 2011 at 9:36 pm

Bernd, they can’t do that without a legitimate reason! You need to complain and insist that they pro-rate and refund you part of the money.

I’ve been with Blue Host now for three years and I’ve never had a problem with them, nor have I had any down time where the service wasn’t running!

(I keep my fingers crossed that it will stay that way!)

  • 25 Bernd Zhang // Jan 21, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Lynn, thanks for your post and support. If they continue to suspend my account I will try to leave them. I doubt if I can get the refund for the remaining days.

Bluehost seems to have no JSP webhosting. Do you know any other reliable provider with JSP webhosting?

  • 26 Lynn // Jan 26, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Sorry Bernd I really don’t know which web hosting companies use JSP, so I can’t recommend one to you.

Too bad Bluehost doesn’t because I’ve been with them for about 3 years now and I’ve never had a problem! Have you tried asking them if they do? They have a live chat with people who actually know what they’re doing and can answer your questions, unlike Mochahost!!!

  • 27 Namita // Mar 7, 2011 at 9:49 pm

I got a domain just 10 days ago on 27 feb 2011 from mochahost and already having issues:
    *cpanel not available
    *site builder not available
    *no tech support
*unable to get started since last 10 days and no response from them till now

Is there something I can do?

  • 28 Lynn // Mar 11, 2011 at 6:54 pm

Hi Namita, as a matter of fact you can cancel your service. If you look at their website at the bottom it says “180 Days Risk Free”. Click on the link and here’s what it says:

30 Days Money Back – during the first 30 days as a client, if you decide to stop your service, we will refund your HOSTING fees in full.

180 Days Risk Free – during the first 180 days as a client, you can opt out to cancel your account, and regardless of your commitment (1 year, 2 years, 3 years, etc), you can request a refund for all unused hosting fees. There will be no penalty fee or cancellation fee. You will be pro-rated for all unused hosting fees based on our standard package pricing.

Of course they charge you for certain things, but you’re probably better off cancelling than continuing with them.

    I hope that helps!

  • 29 MOCHAREVIEW // Mar 13, 2011 at 2:58 am

Mochahost prices are cheap but there is a reason which they will force you to upgrade and pay a lot more than if you were to go to another webhosting that costed a little more in the first place. All the statements below are true. Please contact us at for a Class Action Lawsuit against

    1. FALSE ADVERTISING – They claim they offer unlimited domains, unlimited space and unimited bandwidth. But they will
    2. SUSPEND YOUR ACCOUNT ANYTIME at will without warning and try to
    3. FORCE YOU TO UPGRADE your account. They do not give you unlimited bandwidth nor unlimited storage. This is false advertising which there should be a class action lawsuit against Luring you to buy their cheap plans is a webhosting scam and trick which Mocahost uses to later try to force you to upgrade by suspending your account if you do not.
    4. NOT HELPFUL online support – The online tech support is completely useless and they will terminate the chat as fast as they can and just tell you to write a support ticket.
    5. NO PHONE. You cannot call them. This is one big warning sign for you. If you request they call you, you might have to wait a long time if they even call you back.
    6. NOT FRIENDLY customer tech support. They are only friendly before you sign up.
    7. Mochahost DOES NOT ADMIT FAULT. No matter how you prove there is a problem with the server, they will try their best to tell you nothing is wrong. Perhaps this is their way to avoid any lawsuit or compensation for server down time and problems. They will find ways to blame your codes or anything possible so that they can avoid the responsibility. When you prove it to them, they will still not admit error, then tell you they cannot help you and ask you to write a support ticket. Complaints to will only make them suspend your account which they will make up a reason. If you want an honest webhost, this isn’t it. In fact, this is one of the least honest host and the worst web hosting company we have dealt with in the past 10 years.
    8. Their SERVERS ARE NOT STABLE. The server has stalling issues or downtime about one time every two weeks on average.
    9. Mochahost just DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS. If you want to try them out, sign up for a short time period and you’ll know exactly why Mochahost gets the most complaints of all web hosting companies.
    10. CHECK THE BBB (Better Business Bureau Email: to read their negative web hosting reviews and also make a complaint against Mochahost. They have plenty of complaints. Don’t go with them because you think they are cheap. That is a big mistake. If you file a complaint against Mochahost with the BBB, type in Mochahost for their searched name. They have an F rating with the BBB .
    11. Complaint to the BBB, Paypal,
    12. SUE MOCHAHOST for their mistreatment and for being unethical. You can email and the more complaints the better for a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST MOCHAHOST.COM.

    13. We recommend you contact the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office to file a complaint against the business since the business is located in the County of Santa Clara. Many local district attorneys, through consumer fraud units, prosecute fraudulent practices in their communities. Timsi, Mocha Host’s tech team is not able to do a lot of things. Actually whenever I would ask for help online, they would tell me I needed to send the tech team an email. If I called them, it was always an answering machine that I had to leave a message. That was the extent of the help I got!

  • 43 Andy // Sep 10, 2012 at 2:19 am

Check these tickets – funny conversations with them – till I cancelled :)

    1. I found some issues with billing and they suspended my account –

    2. un-suspension issues – and are they so stupid to not understand the issue and keep repeating –

There have been many more – but now I feel much better knowing that there are others who have been duped by them. The worst hosting company I ever did business with.

Hi Andy, I couldn’t see the conversations that you had with their support system (the links just go to the site) but if memory serves me well, they could never take care of the problem no matter what it was. All they would do is tell you to make out a ticket and someone would get back to you. Each time I talked to someone they had a different name, but the voice was always the same, I think it’s a 1 or 2 man operation! I’m glad I left!

Hey Lynn, If you desire I can send the pdf of the the 2 tickets – These tickets are not only funny examples of what not to do when you are providing support but also shows how Bad these guys have been. :) – I shifted to a better host on time and got saved.

I did a lot of internet research and these are the best hosts for me :
Linux – hostgator, bluehost, theprimehost shared plans
Windows – arvixe shared or a VPS or dedicated Windows is best
JSP – oxxus and Hioxindia are the best in terms of jsp support (only experienced support for jsp).

Hi Andy, thanks for the info. I, for one, use Bluehost (after leaving Mochahost) and I’ve been happy with them ever since. Thanks for the offer of sending tickets, but I’ve had plenty of my own showing how inadequate they are and how useless their support system is! Thanks again!

When I read through the posts above I get the exact same feeling about Mochahost than all the people above. I never called them but the LiveChat operators seems the same person with different names. LiveChat operators always respon:”It is a temporary situation which will be resolved shortly”. Shortly is between two and seventeen hours. LiveChat operator usually asks questions that a ten year old child who uses the computer to play games wouldn’t. Support team never give any reasons for downtime. Downtime is on average three hours per week. I could go on writing forever but I would just repeat the same experience as the people who wrote the comments above. If possible stay away from Mochahosting. If you think it is not possible to stay away from them, I suggest you quit the internet bussines.

Thanks for your comment Darko. It’s been four years since I wrote this post and I see that Mocha Host has not improved their services one iota!!! How they remain in business is a mystery to me!
