Michel Drucker’s Red Couch

May 10th, 2009 · 4 Comments

Maya Muses:  Starting next week I’m going to be really busy with friends visiting from Paris, then family, then more friends from Paris, and then more family!  It’s going to be this way up until the beginning of Fall and then it’ll be our trip back to Paris!  I don’t know how often I’ll be writing, but if I can’t, I’ll post some of my old ones that I wrote from the Paris Traveler.  I thought an appropriate one to start off with is the one I wrote about my good friend Jackie who is the first one coming for a visit and a little R&R with her life partner Gérard.  It’ll be fun to just sit by the pool, or walk on the beach and play a little tennis if it doesn’t get too hot!

The Red Couch

Jackie’s workplaceI went to see a good friend of mine at her workplace who’s retiring early after years at a job she loves. I can still remember when Jackie first started working for Michel Drucker, how happy she was!  It was a dream job right off the Champs-Elysées, not because she met celebrities all the time; she did, but she’s use to it.  No, it was a job she really enjoyed doing.

Michel Drucker Vivemnet DimancheIf you’ve spent anytime in France, then you know who Michel Drucker is. If you haven’t, well think of a famous television personality in your own country that has interviewed just about everyone, no matter if they’re known in the film or music industry, politics, royalty, etc., they’ve all spent time being interviewed by him or her! This sort of gives you an idea of who Michel Drucker is.  He’s sort of like a cross between Larry King and Letterman/Leno.

Me in the Control Room getting in the way!So-o-o, to get back to me, I decided I should go and sit on his couch while I had the chance! I mean I had been to the studio where they film their weekly television show (Vivement Dimanche) a number of times with Jackie, but I had never sat on the red couch!  According to everyone working there, only invited guest are suppose to sit there!  Hmm, it seemed to me that my options were to wait until I was an invited guest on Michel Drucker’s show, or….go and sit there in between tapings! I chose the latter!

Me looking scared that I’m going to be chased off the Red Couch! Now, I’m not by any means telling you to go sit on his red couch, but if you would like to go to the taping of one of his shows or one of the other shows on television with an audience in Paris, it really is rather simple. All you have to do is telephone for invitations or tickets! Vivement Dimanche with Michel Drucker is taped on Wednesdays at 14h00 at Studio Gabriel, 9 Avenue Gabriel, Paris 8e. For a list of television shows you can go to a taping of, click here.

Good idea! Now that’s something most people probably don’t think of doing when they’re visiting Paris.

I’m testing this “box” that allows me to watch TV5Monde via the internet and thanks to your post, I’m currently tuned in to Vivement Dimanche. I can’t follow all of the French, but it’s interesting that he is interviewing all of the tv personalities who give the météo reports. They seem to be real celebrities! Guest musicians are singing songs related to the weather — very clever.

Deena, it is interesting to see how shows are taped in different countries and a lot nicer when you have someone who can take you behind the scenes!

Harriet, funny he should be doing meteorologists; I’ve never seen worse than in France! I don’t know how many times when living in Paris I would be watching the weather report on television and the person would be saying, “Today is sunny all day….etc.” and I would open up my blinds and it would be pouring rain! Then on other days, they would say, “Now, don’t forget to take your umbrellas today!” and sure enough if you took your umbrella, you could have used it as a parasol, because the sun was shining all day long!

It got to be a joke, that whatever the weatherman said, you knew it was going to be the opposite of what he said!!!

(Thanks again! Harriet! I started watching tv after you left and fell fast asleep! Now it’s 1 a.m. and I’m wide awake!!! )
