When I think of Mexican cuisine, cheesecake is not the first thing that comes to mind! Well actually it’s not even the second or third or tenth thing that comes to mind,
but apparently it did to 55 pastry chefs who spent 60 hours making the world’s largest cheesecake in Mexico City yesterday!
Under the supervision of Chef Miguel Angel Quezada, a ton of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (truly the best!) and a ton of yogurt were used along with 250 kg (551 lbs) of sugar, 150 kg (331 lbs) of butter and 350 kg (772 lbs) of pastry were used to make what they hope will be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest cheesecake in the world! The event was sponsored by Kraft Foods and needless to say the maker of Philadelphia cream cheese!
The two ton cake was topped with strawberries and cut into 20,000 slices and handed out to people in Mexico City much to the delight of thousands of children and adults alike!
