It’s All Maya!

Funny how you can write a post about something that you think is not going to interest anyone and then it becomes your most popular post; if comments are any indication.  The day I wrote about Lancel, I just couldn’t think of anything to write about and then I saw my purse there as I was getting ready to leave the apartment, so I typed out a quick article on how I love my Lancel purses.  Little did I know there were a lot of other fashion saavy women out there who don’t just buy a label!  They look for quality and style!  Well done ladies (and I applaud you men who seem to have bought your significant other a nice gift or two!)  What follows is the article I wrote last year for the Paris Traveler…

I really can’t understand what all the hype is about owning a Louis Vuitton bag! Personally, I prefer Lancel. Perhaps it’s nostagic memories of my first Lancel leather purse more than twenty years ago bought for me by one of my French admirers. Or perhaps it has more to do with the fact that although the price was high, the quality of that bag and all the others I have owned since then have lasted throughout the years.   

Lancel began in 1876, but it wasn’t until the early 1900’s that the company began to cater to women’s handbags and accessories, and not until 1976, one hundred years later, that the company changed hands and a new modernism of the ‘chic’ woman was born.  

Last year Lancel launched its new store with its largest display window on the Champs-Elysées, and yes, if you think I went into that store and got myself another handbag, you’re right! You can visit their website, or better yet stop in at one of their more than twenty locations in Paris, you probably won’t leave the store without one!

One final word, no this is not a post I’m being paid for.  I just love their product, but if Lancel would like to offer me a bag for my kind words….who am I to refuse such an offer!

Maya Muses:  Does it really matter if we carry our stuff in a Lancel purse or one from Gucci?  It’s all an illusion anyway.  A plastic bag from Monoprix or Walmart will do the job just as well…but if given the choice, my illusion sees me holding a bag from Lancel, thank you very much!
