If you’re a Baby Boomer like me, then you still have images in your mind of Caroline and John John in the White House. John and Jackie Kennedy were the epitome of what a glamorous couple looked like. John F. Kennedy, young, handsome and the most powerful man in the Free World and his beautiful wife, Jackie, elegant, sophisticated and fluent in French were a dream couple.
John John the little tyke with his antics in the Oval Office who grew up to be a perfect combination of both his parents could very easily have run for President and won! He had the charm, the charisma and was eloquently articulate that it’s not a far cry to think he could have eventually ended in the White House if not for his tragic death.
That leaves Caroline, you know. What can I say? She was right up there with the rest of her family. Smart, discreet, a philanthropist giving speeches when the occasion demanded it, but staying mostly out of the public eye,…. until recently! Yikes! What happened?!
(I don’t often get the chance to use the word “yikes” you know, but in this case it’s merited!)
Either Caroline is extremely shy and becomes so flustered in the public eye that her “you knows” and “ums” are like a nervous tic or a twitch, or else she better get to a speech coach quickly! Bottom line, if Caroline becomes the next New York Senator, it will only be because of her family name.
Maya Muses: You know, the same people tooting Caroline Kennedy’s horn, saying she’s qualified to be the next New York Senator, are the same people who were saying that Sarah Palin was not qualified to be the next Vice-President because (according to them) she was not articulate enough and couldn’t answer the questions being asked by reporters.
Hmm, when you listen to Sarah Palin speak and you listen to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg speak, well, as I’ve said, I like Caroline, you know! She brings back a certain nostalgia for my childhood, but, um,…. you know what I think!
