Happy Paris Memories At Eye Prefer Paris

September 15th, 2008 · 14 Comments

46 Rue de VaugirardI recently left a comment on Richard Nahem’s blog called Eye Prefer Paris; it’s one of a number of blogs that I like to visit when I have the time.  What inspired me to leave a comment was a photograph of his Door of the Month, at 46 rue de Vaugirard, a door that I know very well!

Richard emailed me and asked if he could use my comment in an upcoming post; I, of course, said yes.  I also sent him a photo of that very same door.  I had taken it last year with a friend of mine who use to also live at that address back in the early 1980’s!

Me and Shimenu in 2007So there are two photos of us!  One that my friend and I had taken in 1981 and the other taken twenty-six years later!

Maya Muses:  Thanks Richard, it brought back a lot of great memories and I found an old sketch of, not only the door, but the entire building that I drew back in 1981 !

I love Doors!I love to see what is behind them…
It is something with Doors that tickle my fantasy…
Portals are also fascinating….Come to think of it,every entrance are fascinating!

    Going out!Sun is shining!

Doors are very symbolic, especially in dreams. If a door is open, it means new opportunities, new things coming into your life and/or you will be a welcome guest in whatever you are doing or planning to do. A closed door means the opposite and that the time is not right to take on new projects. There’s a barrier that is holding you back. It also depends on what the door looks like; a beautiful door of course means something different than an old broken down door….etc.

Okay, I’ll stop! I love doing dream interpretations! Like you, I also love doors and in Paris there are so many beautiful doors!!!

    Love doing that too!Dream interpretations!
    Could tell you many….

Tina and I are doing it a lot….
Ulf and I used to do it!It is fascinating..
    Hmmm I use this word a lot,don’t I?But life is…fascinating…

Saw a program last night about how our body looks like on the inside, how fantastic our body works….We are miracles, often we forget this!Fascinating!!!!

Doors….yes, love them….Doors that are easy to open and beautiful, so you wanna look inside to see what is behind them…

One experience I had with Closed doors in early age is when one of my uncles put me and my brother in our hall, closed all the doors and turned the light off!We were about 3-4 years old! Then he locked himself into our bedroom!
We were not scared, but started to cry when our mom came home and found us there and got really upset!
(He had problems with is mental health, but this we didn’t know..)
I guess it was lucky we were so young and innocent…and was not afraid of the dark…(And he was not dangerous….just confused..)

Still, you remember this from your childhood, so subconsciously it did have an impact on you, but what do I know!? I’m not a psychologist, nor a psychiatrist! As you said, it’s a good thing you and your brother weren’t afraid of the dark and that your uncle wasn’t dangerous.

Lol!Thank heaven for that!that you are just you,I mean!
    Yeah…I guess it did…In what way,I don’t know!

Now I will go warm myself up in the bath tub!
    It is cold!

  • 6 Lynn // Sep 19, 2008 at 4:45 am

Cold! A few days ago it was still around 35° (C) here! I hate the hot weather! I shouldn’t complain, the air-conditioning is always on and it’s always nice on the beach.

Still, it’s funny how you need a hot bath to keep you warm and I need a cold shower to keep me cool!

  • 7 Mia // Sep 20, 2008 at 2:56 pm

A bit too hot even for me…But I will be there “pronto” if you just say so….
I’m not too fond of the winters here, too long for my liking…
    Hmmm..forgot about my siesta….

Too much in head all of a sudden!Lol

  • 8 Lynn // Sep 20, 2008 at 9:30 pm

I don’t know, most of our family and friends prefer to stay away during hurricane season which lasts until the end of November! Lol.

I love the cold weather and when the days are shorter and the nights longer. Are you in the south of Sweden or the north? I guess when you have nighttime most of the time, it can get to be depressing as well.

  • 9 Mia // Sep 21, 2008 at 5:53 pm

I live on the west coast….more south than north…
To live in the north of our country I don’t think I could do….Wintertime the sun is never up!
    Summertime it is never down!

But yes,the darkness is difficult for me,I need the light! So on wintertime if I can I go south or use a “light lamp”(not sure it is called that, but hope you know what I mean)….

The topic was doors was it not?Lol,done it again!
    Sorry….

  • 10 Lynn // Sep 21, 2008 at 8:34 pm

I know! I had two good friends from England who spent a year in Lapland!!! The stories they told! (Mostly about reindeer! Lol.)

In Paris the contrast isn’t so great. In winter night falls around 4:30 in the afternoon and in summer it’s still light at 10:30 at night. That’s one reason why I don’t like summers in Paris! Katia was so surprised when it started getting dark around 11 p.m. Where she lives in Texas, the sun goes down around the same time (6, 7, or 8 p.m.) most of the year!

Yesterday, Patrick and I had lunch in a French restaurant, then we went for a walk….there were some really lovely doors. lol.

  • 11 Mia // Sep 22, 2008 at 5:47 pm

    Lol….
Yes…we past some really nice doors too today when we were out…

You don’t like summers in Paris because it too light, too long? What are you?A night owl?
I think you are more like a cat….If you know what I mean…

  • 12 Lynn // Sep 23, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Well, that’s one reason, but I don’t like all the tour buses (You can’t even walk across the street, buses are parked everywhere!) and there are so many tourists. Prices go up during the summer months, etc.

I’ve always preferred to get out of Paris in the summertime and visit other countries. Or just go to the countryside; it rejuvenates you!

Or to the beach, which is what we’ve been doing for the past five years. I don’t go to the beach during the day, Patrick and I wait until right before sunset and we have the entire beach to ourselves. The sunsets are spectacular and it’s the time when the dolphins are going home. We take out a bottle of wine, and a French picnic (in other words, Patrick makes an entire feast that he calls a picnic) and we sit out there, or play pétanque until it gets too dark to see. It’s wonderful. I’ll put up some photos soon of some great sunsets and Patrick hunting for crabs and oysters!

    Okay…
    I know what you mean….
The country side or the beach are where you should be in the summertime….

That is what we do to…we go to the “beach” when almost everyone are going home…

The energy is different and to watch the sunset is magical, the sunrise too….

When we were in Goa we found it so wonderful when the village people, every evening went down to the beach to watch the sun go down….

Okay, next summer I will be there too…I love dolphins, want to see them go home too….
and to share a bottle of wine and taste Patrick’s “French picnic”…..it sounds like heaven!
I can picture it in my mind!

India is an entirely different universe! One of my exes just loved it there! He went twice and spent 3 months each time. Which reminds me, I’ll have to write a post about an interesting place there.

Yes, the beaches are crowded during the day when it is so hot and sunny; you can’t move! Then everyone leaves at the same time, about an hour before sunset (to go home and have dinner I guess, or to watch tv) and Patrick and I can walk for 3 miles (about 5 kilometres) on the beach and not see anyone! It’s wonderful!

The funny thing is the dolphins go to a small cove and spend the night there. Sometimes we’ve seen as many as 25 dolphins jumping in the water. The cutest are the little babies, even they jump, but their tails go in almost as quickly as their noses! Anyway….the reason why I mention this is, everytime we take someone out there to see the dolphins, they (the dolphins) don’t show!!! We wait, and we call them, but nada, rien, zilch! Then when Patrick and I are by ourselves, they come out! No kidding! Friends and family think we’re hallucinating!!! LOL!!! Maybe you’ll have better luck!
