It’s All Maya!

If Life is an illusion, then why do I keep banging my head against the wall?

Si la Vie est une illusion, pourquoi je n'arrête pas de me taper la tête sur les murs?

Maya Muses:  I think I have just about every book that was ever written by Kahlil Gibran.  The poetic way he expresses himself about the mundane circumstances of life is anything but to a soul on a quest for more!

On prayer:

“You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance.”

“Your children are not your children….”

On children:

“Your children are not your children.  They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.  They come through you, but not from you.  And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.”

On life and living:

“And if there come the singers and the dancers and the flute players, buy of their gifts also.  For they too are gatherers of fruit and frankincense, and that which they bring, though fashioned of dreams, is raiment and food for your soul.”

“…know that yesterday is but todays memory and tomorrow is todays dream.”

“…thought is a bird of space that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings, but cannot fly.”

“….the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”

“The longest voyage is the one we take within ourselves.”

“The strong grow in solitude where the weak wither away.”

“It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

“….her strange beauty….as a tree in blossom….through the mist of dawn.”

On joy and sadness:

“She wore a cloak of deep sorrow through her life, which increased her strange beauty and dignity, as a tree in blossom is more lovely when seen through the mist of dawn.”

“When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

“Your joy is your sadness without a mask.”

“The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain.”

On friendship:

“And let there be no purpose in friendship, save the deepening of the spirit.”

“When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence.”

“And let there be no purpose in friendship, save the deepening of the spirit.”

“For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared with joy that is unacclaimed.”

On love:

“Love is the only freedom in the world because it so elevates the spirit that the laws of humanity and the phenomena of nature do not alter it course.”

“…you shall be togerther even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you.”

“Love is a precious Treasure, it is God’s gift to sensitive and great spirits.”

“Love knows not its own depth until the hour of separating.”

“….Love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.”

“Those whom Love has not chosen as followers, do not hear when Love calls.”

“And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.”

On death and dying:

“For what is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun.  And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered.”

“Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.  And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

“….a moment of rest upon the wind….”

On reincarnation:

“A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.”
