Is anyone surprised that the two finalist on American Idol are the two Davids? I think not! If anyone has watched this show for the past several seasons, then you know that the judges try to sway the audience into picking the finalists that they want. Or does the audience even pick the winner at all? I’m not entirely convinced that this is the case!
Although Syesha had the best performances these past few weeks, there was no way that the judges weren’t going to try and influence the public into a head to head between David Archuleta and David Cook. Even the ever so flighty Paula Abdul, who never has a bad thing to say about any contestant, was probably coerced into saying the bad things she said about Syesha. And who could forget her blunder when she blurted out what the producers probably wrote for her to say on Jason Castro’s second performance, when he had just sung his first song! (That’ll teach them in the future not to give Paula such a hard task as to know the difference between one song and two!!!)
Enough about hypothesizing, however! Is this finale really going to be as great as everyone thinks it will be? I doubt it! Unless David Archuleta can finally muster some feeling into his songs and not drift off into Mayaland, perhaps he could be worthy of winning AI. I liked David A. at the beginning of this competition, but it seems that he peaked on Imagine. After that it’s been rather boring to say the least. Win or lose, he’ll still get a recording contract. The producers know only too well that he could sing a recipe for chicken soup and all the tweens - teenyboppers will go out and buy the CD!.
As for David Cook, I didn’t care for him at all in the beginning until he sang Billie Jean, which I must say, whoever did the arrangement - “Bravo!” It truly is a masterpiece! That said, David Cook is fooling almost everyone, even the judges! He struggles pitch-wise throughout each song and is also boring until the last two notes. Then he belts them out like some great rocker and the audience and the judges go wild! Uh, duh, did all of you forget the entire song before those last two notes?!!! I think so!
Unless these two guys pleasantly surprise me, I’m afraid, unlike past seasons, this is going to be one rather boring finale.

Maya Muses: Archuleta - Cook. Clinton-Obama - McCain. American Idol reminds me so much of the presidential election this year; there really isn’t anyone I like enough to want to vote for!

Yeah, more importantly is, who’s going to be the next US president. I’m sure if it were one of the Davids, he couldn’t do any worse than what we’ve had for the past 8 years!
