Every year Patrick and I enjoy watching the Tour de France, but this year we’ve been so busy that we really haven’t had time to follow it as closely as we would like.
I woke up this morning and walked into the kitchen where Patrick was making coffee and watching TV. “Hi cheri, what are you watching?” I asked, making my way to one of the kitchen cabinets.
“The Tour de France.” he said, as he sat down at the table getting ready to eat breakfast.
I stood there taking out my usual bottles of vitamins and minerals, while Patrick tried desperately to see the television set that I was partially blocking.
“Oh sorry!” I said, getting out of the way and turning to look at the action on TV. Then we realized that Lance Armstrong was wearing the maillot jaune! “Surely he can’t possibly be winning another Tour de France!” I said, my eyes glued to the television screen. “I can’t believe it!”
“It’s amazing!” Patrick said, “he’s what, 37 years old?”
“I know,….who would have believed it possible?!”
Then we both stood there watching Lance Armstrong make an incredible, near impossible, sprint to the finish line!
“Yes!!!” I said, with both my arms raised in the air. “Oh my God, can you believe it?!” I continued marching around the kitchen. “Yes!” I said again, as I raised my arms once more!
“Amazing!” Patrick shook his head, “the guy is like a machine! Did you see that?!”
“Uh, wait….wha,…what did he say?!” I asked, catching a few snippets from the announcer on television.
“…. and that was one of the best moments in the 2004 Tour de France!” the announcer concluded.
I looked at Patrick quizically, “You mean we’ve been watching a clip from 2004?!!!”
“Uhh….” Patrick said, looking at me and then we bust out laughing hysterically.
“I thought that sprint looked familiar.” Patrick said, still laughing.
“Yeah right!” I said, taking my vitamins and bottle of water into the living room where I could listen to some nice peaceful music.
Maya Muses: Afterall, it was enough excitement for a Sunday morning, if you ask me!
