How do we justify the fact that Carly Smithson was eliminated from American Idol, while Brooke White and Jason Castro are still in the running? Simple! Most of these reality shows have nothing to do with talent, but more to do with a popularity contest! As far as talent goes, Carly was by far the best singer this season.
According to Carly she’s been around for quite some time trying to break into the business, but has gotten a number of bad breaks. I don’t worry too much for her; other Idol losers have had fabulous careers from being on the show, and I’m sure Carly will also do just as well.
The music industry is tough, actually the entertainment industry is. It’s a closed society where most have to fight their way in. Afterall, once you’re in and you see the outrageous amounts of money you make for doing very little, you want to guard that with your life! It’s human nature to fear that there isn’t room enough for everyone, and therefore you have to defend your territory, when in reality the opposite is true.
What I’m hoping to see is more out of David Cook. Until now, (Billie-Jean excluded, which was brillant!) David C. has been a “one-note wonder”! His songs are mostly pitchy, boring, etc., until he hits his one big note and everyone forgets about the rest of the song! He gets accolades from the audience and the judges because that’s all they remember. Take out those one or two big notes from each of his songs and you’ll see what I’m talking about!
That just leaves Syesha Mercado and David Archuleta. If the show was based on talent alone the final two should have been Carly and David A. Need I say more?!
Maya Muses: Imagine - if people actually won for their talent instead of their popularity! Then again - you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one!
